The Cathedral Basilica The Cathedral Basilica is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mar. It was consecrated in The original design was by Italian architects and the project was completed in In the porch there is a contemporary copy of the old Romanesque Door. The Cathedral’s treasury shelters the chalice with the paten and St. Sigismund’s herm.

Narutowicza Square, the former Canonical Marketplace This is the former shopping area of the new city established in The canon’s houses have been located around it for ages. The oldest of building houses the Płock Scientific Society. The southwestern side ends with the Bishop’s palace which was converted into a court after World War II. The remaining buildings have classical features and date from 1837.

The Old Market Since the medieval times, the old market has served as a meeting place and the home to fresh products. The gothic city hall that used to stand in the middle of the market was replaced with a new classical building in 1824 and was expanded by neighboring tenement houses. The former Hotel de Berlin is situated on the south western side of the market and today is known as Darmstadt Hosue. During the period German writer and composer E.T.A. Hoffmann lived at this famous landmark.

St.Baratholomew’s Parish Church Originally this church was a big Gothic parish church founded by King Casmir the Great and erected after Since 1942, in order to save the building, its main portion was significantly decreased by pulling down the facade and the towers from the Vistula River side. The building gained a completely new appearance. It was made smaller, was shortened by half, was shorn of its chaples, with its facade and entry.

The Garanaries Płock used to be an impotant port located on the Vistula River. Many garanaries stood up at the edge of the slope. The last two of them were adapted to the National Archive and the Ethnographic Section to display folk art and culture of the Mazovia Region.

The Monastery and the Cathedral Complex of the Marian Friars It is the main seat of the Old-catholic Church of the Marian Friares established in The neo- gothic buildings of the cathedral and the monastery were erected in 1914 according to the design by Bishop Kowalski, an amateur architect. The interior decorations also come from this era.

The Synagogue A Jewish community lived in Płock as early as the first half of 13 th century. At the beginning of World War II, the Nazi formed a ghetto there. In 1941, they transported about 10,000 people to the concetration camps. In 1942, the Monument to 13 people killed and a symbolic Peace Bell were put up in the place of mass execution. The Synagogue was renovated in 2011 and now it hosts The Museum of Mazovian Jewish Community.

Tumska Street This street was marked out as a route in a new city plan after During the 19 th century it became the main shopping center surrounded by tenement houses built in different styles. The most interesting houses include a part of the former English Hotel with its neo-Gothic gate and Art Nouveau tenement houses.

Mazovian Museum The museum situated at 8 Tumska Street was founded in It has the most precious collection of Art Nouveau. There you can admire the most outstanding works of art from the turn of the 19th century: paintings, sculptures, silverware, glass and china.

The Warszawskie toll-gate Each of the five toll-gate that lead to the city had a different architectural shape. The former Warsaw route has the most impressive and the largest gates that were built in the period according to the original classical design by Jakub Kubicki.

Zoological Gardens The Zoo was established in 1951 on the picturesque terraces of the Vistula River. There are 430 animal species in the Zoo, including Poland’s largest collection of reptiles and amphibians.
