This story takes place in the small fictional town of Naomi, Florida. Opal and Winn-Dixie meet friends all over town, including the library, a pet shop, and people’s homes. New to the area, Opal is very lonely. She feels almost like an orphan with her mother disappearing seven years ago and her father hidden away in his “turtle shell”.
