Our Government Judicial Branch- is the court system. It decides if laws are fair and if laws have been broken. The US Supreme Court is the nation’s highest court.

Governing South Carolina Our state government is located in Columbia, our state capital. Our state government also has three branches.

Governing South Carolina The Legislative is called the General Assembly. It is made up of the senate, which has 46 members, and the House of Representatives which has 124 members. The Legislative branch makes state laws. It also raises money from taxes to fund important services and controls spending.

Governing South Carolina Our state’s judicial branch is its court system. Judges and juries decide whether citizens have broken laws. The South Carolina Supreme Court is the highest court in our state. It makes our laws agree with South Carolina’s Constitution.

Local Government County and local governments make rules and laws and provide services at the county and city or town level. There are 46 counties in South Carolina.
