Animal Classification

ANIMAL CLASSIFICATION There are many different types of animals in the world. Many animals are quite similar to each other. Others are quite different. Animals can be classified based on their similarities

Vertebrates: Animals that have backbone More complex bodies Vertebrates are classified into five main groups : MAMMALS, BIRDS, REPTILES, AMPHIBIANS AND FISH

MAMMALS Have hair or fur Mammals mothers nurse theiir young with milk Have lung and need aire to breathe Mammals that live on land have 4 legs

EXAMPLES

Birds Have feathers Most can fly Lay eggs with hard shells Breathe air with lungfs

Example

Amphibians -Young live in water;adults live on land -Have sooth, moist skin. -Lay jellylike eggs with no shells

Reptiles Live on land and in watter Have sclaes Breathe air with lungs

Examples

Fish Live in water Most have scales Breathe oxygen in water with gils Lay eggs without shells or give birth to live young

Examples
