Graphing Ordered Pairs *We can locate a point by using a coordinate system.* The coordinate system is formed when two number lines intersect at their zero points Origin Y-axis X-axis

Y-axis You have been graphing in the First Quadrant There are actually four quadrants! You can remember the quadrants by drawing a “C” for coordinate graph.

x y Now that we have learned about positive and negative numbers, we can graph in all four quadrants.

Instructions for Graphing in all Four Quadrants Start at zero. Choose a door. (+) Positive – move to the right. (-)Negative – move to the left. Choose a floor. (+) Positive – move up. (-) Negative – move down.

Select a door, Choose a floor!

x y Let’s graph point A (5,-2)

Let’s try graphing Point B(-3,4), Point C(3,7) and Point D(-6,-5) x y

It’s your turn! x y Point E (6,- 4) Point F (- 7,- 5) Point G (-5, 6)
