AI50: Typical Customer Enquiries QuestionReplyRemarks Would I be better off with a Class A AIS? No. Class A is designed for commercial ships and has facilities that are not needed by recreational users, making it much more expensive Class A does have a higher reporting rate and output power. Unless extreme range or rapid update is required, class B will Why does the class A fitted vessel does not see me? It probably is seeing you. Older class A units will not see your ships name or other static data, but can see you MMSI and position. Also the ship may have chosen to filter out class B units on his chart or radar display. Class B uses a new message which will require a software update on the class A units. Can I share my Standard VHF antenna with the AIS? Can I use the existing GPS with the AIS? Is AIS a replacement for RADAR? Company Confidential © 2010 Navico Holding AS Page 33

AI50: Typical Customer Enquiries QuestionReplyRemarks Do I need a new MMSI number for the AIS? No. The existing MMSI allocated to your vessel’s VHF Radio will also be used in your AIS Sharing the MMSI allows the AI50 to compose DSC calls to other ships. Is the AI50 Approved?Yes. It is fully approved for sale and use in Europe. As of March 2008, the US has not yet allowed class B AIS to be sold or used. Why does the chart not have full detail? The chart in the AI50 is a representation of the World’s coastline to aid spatial recognition of targets. The AI50 was never meant to be a replacement for charts or plotting devices. The level of data required would not be viable to store in this type of device. Company Confidential © 2010 Navico Holding AS Page 34
