5S Review What is 5S?

Office Safety File Cabinets and Shelves –Secure file cabinets that are not weighted at the bottom. Either bolt them to the floor or to the wall. –Ensure that file cabinet drawers cannot easily be pulled clear of the cabinet. Do not block ventilation grates with file cabinets. –Open only one drawer at a time to keep the cabinet from toppling. Close drawers when they are not in use. –Do not place heavy objects on top of cabinets. Be aware that anything on top of a cabinet may fall off if a drawer is opened suddenly. –Close drawers slowly using the handle to avoid pinched fingers. Keep the bottom drawer full. This will help stabilize the entire cabinet.

Fire Safety Prevention –Keep passageways and exits free from storage and waste. –Promptly remove waste paper, packaging, old rags and other fire hazards. –Do not run electrical leads or cords across doors or walkways, or pinch them behind furniture. –Do not overload power outlets or extension boards. –Make sure that escape stairs and exit doors are not locked or blocked.

ERGONOMICS

Ergonomics is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.

Slouching –Can cause tension, headache, shoulder and back pain. –it can affect your rib cage, which can damage your heart and lungs, and lead to gastrointestinal issues

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome –Is the inflammatory disorder of the tissue around the median nerve caused by repetitive stress or physical injury.

Computer Vision Syndrome –Eye irritation that causes blurry and double-vision due to long hour use of computers especially with poor contrast.
