Health and Social Care Voluntary and Community Sector in Tameside and Glossop Jane Friend Tameside Third Sector Coalition

What is the Landscape of the Health and Social Care Voluntary and Community Sector? VCS Health and Social care provision is made up of:- 1.Large National Voluntary Organisation 2.Local Branches of National Self Help Groups 3.Local Voluntary Organisations 4.Local Community Groups 5.Social Enterprises

Relationship between the PCT and Voluntary and Community Sector This relationship between the PCT and VCS is ‘Healthy’. 2 T3SC posts, Health and Social Care Team Leader and Health and Social Care Community Networker are both PCT funded. T3SC has regular meetings with Commissioning Managers to discuss issues relating to the Voluntary and community Sector.

Relationship between the PCT and Voluntary and Community Sector PCT funding pot-Community Education Learning Projects which VCS groups can apply for. Health is for Life Festival. Voluntary Groups Commissioned by the PCT to deliver public Health and Social Care Services.

Barriers to Commissioning Not a wide scale VSC understanding of commissioning and the commissioning process. Individual Commissioners have a different understanding of how the VCS ‘works’.

How are T3SC working to overcome these barriers? T3SC supported networks elect representatives to and/or represents the VCS on the following Partnerships and forums:- Health Partnership Board. Health Inequalities Steering Group. Children and Young People “Be Healthy” Sub Group. Mental Health Local Implementation Group and Sub Groups. Joint Commissioning Group for Health and Social Care. Joint Needs Assessment Group.

How are T3SC working to overcome these barriers? T3SC will encourage the VCS to feed back their impact on Health Inequalities to the Health Inequalities Steering Group. T3SC is in the process of collecting information from VCS regarding impact on Health Inequalities.

Future Plans T3SC employing a part time Commissioning and Procurement Officer. Run training Sessions on commissioning and contracting for the VSC. Briefing Sessions for the VCS about the latest Government policy updates. Increase engagement in tendering opportunities for the VCS. Engage with GMCVO around regional issues.
