Creative Photography 2013 Artist Statements

For me, the creation of art is a process of capturing the passion and inspiration of my life. Photographs represent a point in time and I wish to convey these points in time as a memory to my viewers. I draw a lot of my inspiration from nature, pop culture, music and my own passions. These diverse forms of inspiration become the focus of my photographs. Typically, my process for taking photos is picking a subject that can be a person or a particular object and photographing them in natural light in front of a background that is not distracting. This way, the background enhances the subject I am capturing. My work is a reflection of me as a person because it reflects elements of my personality and my unique perspective for taking photographs. My photographs are taken with a Nikon D3000, a Canon Rebel and a Canon Powershot. I have also had the opportunity to use a Nikon D90 for some of my photographs. My favorite camera to use is the Nikon D3000 because it produces high quality images and is easy to use for a variety of types of compositions. My philosophy about taking photographs is to have a vision of what you want to achieve aesthetically in a photograph but to not let those expectations limit what you can capture when you are photographing. I love a successful candid shot in particular because they come so organically and have a one of a kind quality. Having an open mind about what you are going to photograph is important too. There are so many possibilities for gorgeous compositions sporadically when you go out into the world and I don’t think you should ever limit yourself artistically. I create art because it is how I convey the ideas in my head through a visual medium. Photography continues to be a passion of mine. It documents moments and emotion in a way no other form of art can. Anya Bernhard
