Modular-units built in a factory Freestanding Dwelling-single family home Apartment-multi-family dwelling, usually rented. Cooperative ownership- residents own a share in the non- profit corporation that owns the building and grounds.

MODULAR HOMES are systems-built homes made of separate boxlike sections or modules that are built at a factory and fastened together at the site.

Dwellings made up of parts manufactured in a factory and assembled at the building site, such as log house kits. Logs can be cut and windows framed in the factory and put together on site.

High Rise over 3 stories with elevator. Low Rise (no elevator) Two Story with stairs inside (no elevator) Garden Apartment, with patio and garden area part of the space Efficiency Apartment- one main room with one bathroom

Town House-One of several houses attached at side walls. usually 2 story. Duplex-one building with 2 separate living units. Triplex-one building with 3 living units in it. Fourplex or Quadraplex-one building with 4 living units.

Coop: A non-profit corporation owns a multi-family dwelling with owners purchasing stock in that corporation. Owners are represented by a Board in making decisions for the group and all units. Condo: Owner owns unit and may sell or change the unit without permission from other owners as long as rules are followed. Grounds are cared for by owner fees.

Closed Plan-Floor plans that allow for more privacy and better separation between zones. Open Plan-Seem more spacious combining kitchen, dining, and living space for easier social interaction.

One-level home—Living and bedroom areas are all on one level. Two-level home—Colonials are one example of two story homes, usually with bedrooms upstairs. Split-level home—Lower level below ground level with two levels on part of the house and one level on the other part of the house. Entry is on the single level section. Good for sloping land. Split-entry home--Entrance is on mid-level and there are 2 other living levels.

Some PUDS are designed for various types of homes while others specialize on meeting the needs of a particular age groups, such as the elderly or families with small children. Some use layouts to make the most of the available land with cluster homes and zero-lot-line homes. They include open spaces and large grassy areas that can be shared by all homeowners in the development.

Utilities and Public Services—electric, gas, water, phone, trash collection, recycling, sewer, street maintenance. Public Safety—police, fire department, & ambulance. Education—Good schools, universities, library, transportation to school or walking distance. Recreation—playing fields, parks, open areas, playgrounds, movie theater, swimming pool, lakes, rivers, beach, museum, & shopping. Tax rates and policies.
