4 Penthouse Usually the most expensive. Located on the top floors of a building. Great views. Often have access to roof top gardens and pools. Think of the sayings like: Working my way to the top, It’s lonely at the top, and Climbing my way up.

9 Garden Apartments Ground floor. Can cost less. Benefit of often being able to walk straight out into a garden or lawn.

14 Efficiency The smallest of the apartments. Usually everything is in one room with an extremely small bath and kitchen. If rooms are divided it is usually only by a screen, curtain, or a step. Often in large cities where square footage is at a premium price.

17 Cooperative Cooperative is similar to an apartment but the owner buys “stock” in the building and has a specific unit to live in. The dwellers of a cooperative are owners of a building and work together to maintain the building.

18 Condominium A condominium is a form of home ownership in which individual units of a larger complex are sold, not rented. These units may be renovated

19 Townhouse A townhouse is a dwelling that seems to combine the best amenities of a single-family home and a condominium. A townhouse is a home that is attached to adjacent houses. Typically, ownership of the townhouse comes with ownership of the land that its on.

22 Single-Family Houses Single-family homes allow the owners to have more privacy. They can have a yard and do not have people living above or below them. Can you think of any other benefits of living in a single-family home.

26 Custom Built Home A home that is designed by an architect and built by a contractor to meet the needs of an individual family. With a custom built home, the home is unique and there are seldom two that are alike. These homes are more costly than other homes and often take longer to build.

27 Owner-Built Home The building is supervised by the owner. Owner built homes require knowledge and lots of personal time and energy. The owner can but does not necessarily do their own work, but hires the individual team of workers

Modular Manufactured/mobile Site built is a home that is built on the land where it will stand

29 Modular Homes Homes that are built in sections and the put together in segments or cubes like a puzzle. Benefits include: The structure does not get rained on during construction. The company builds the same plan more often so waste is less Less expensive Have different building codes than houses They are moved onto a foundation on your own land

Homes that are completely built in a factory and moved on wheels to a piece of land that is rented (mobile home park) or owned. They can be moved to another location Can be single wide or double wide

40 Remember A site-built home is a “stick-built” home, constructed on the lot (land) using some factory-built components such as precut items and kits. Custom-built home is designed by an architect and built by a contractor to meet the needs of an individual family.
