The Battle o’ Britain Ends In May of 1941 Hitler gave up on plans to invade Britain. Over people killed in the bombings (mostly civilians)

Germany vs USSR USSR invades the Balkans in 1940 Germany breaks its non-aggression pact with USSR shortly after the B.o.B. ends Operation Barbarossa launched

Think Critically What problems might Germany encounter in attacking the Soviet Union? How might the decision to not invade Britain affect the Germans?

Barbarossa German’s have great success at first (surprise-Russians unprepared). By Autumn they reached the outskirts of Moscow and Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Germans unprepared for Soviet winter and their advances slowed way down.

Barbarossa In 1942 Germans began another push and got as far as Stalingrad Severe winter and Soviet counterattacks saw the Germans suffer. By 1943 Germans had lost more than 300,000 and surrenders of troops began to take place. Soviets counterattacked and took much of Eastern Europe by 1944.
