Key themes in the second year of the challenge – Greater collaboration across the three strands – Consolidation of the work to date – Influencing the wider system – Reaching out further to new areas

Dementia Friendly Communities strand 1. Getting evidence from people with dementia and carers about what would make it possible for them to enjoy a better quality of life in their community. 2. Creating a system of recognition for that places and organisations wanting to become dementia 3. Creating local Dementia Action Alliances across the country to bring together people and organisations 4. Educating the public so that more people understand dementia and start to think about how they can make things better..

Dementia 2013 Annual report charting progress Focus on quality of life among people with dementia Spotlight on loneliness and social isolation

What values underpin a dementia friendly community? ______________________________________________________________________________________________ alzheimers.org.uk Dementia Friends is an initiative that is helping to create more dementia friendly communities. Alzheimer’s Society will be working with partners to develop Dementia Friends in the wide range of locations, work places, institutions and organisations likely to come into contact with people with dementia. We want there to be a million Dementia Friends in England by the end of 2015.

Issues to consider What are the challenges? How do get the most from working together? How do we make it sustainable? How do we show progress?
