THE MARRIAGE OF THE LITTLE MOUSE Drawing by the children of 2o kindergarten of Ierapetra-Crete.

A fairy tale from Halkidiki of Greece Sometimes we are searching to find the best, and most precious of all. But have we ever thought that maybe it is in front of us and can’t see it?

Once upon a time there were three mice. The father, the mother and a daughter.

The couple wanted to marry their child with the best and strongest groom of all.

At first they thought of the sun. So they decided to visit him and ask him to marry their child. They went all together and expressed him their desire. The sun laughed and told them that he was not the strongest, because when the cloud was on the sky, he could do nothing to get rid of it. He was unable to shine, since the cloud hides him. “ You should go to the cloud. He is the strongest of all” the sun told to the mice.

The three mice met the cloud and asked it to marry their daughter. “I am not the strongest”, said the cloud. “ The wind beats me because when it blows, it drifts me here and there. I am helpless”.

The family tried to find the wind and when they finally approached it they made to it their proposal.” I am not the strongest as you think. Stronger than me is this castle over there. I blow, I blow, but I can not demolish it” said the wind. “ You should climb up the hill and ask it” the wind continued.

The three mice climbed up at the top of the high mountain and they stood up in front of the castle. “ We would like you to marry our beautiful child, since you are the strongest of all in the world” said the father. “ I am not the strongest. You, the mice, are the strongest” the castle answered. And continued: “ All these years, in my basement, hundreds of mice, eat my fundations and very soon they will manage to demolish me”.

In the end the father and mother decided to marry their daughter with a mouse, since it was the most handsome and strong groom in the world. Their wedding ceremony was a big event for all the society of mice.

The new couple, after a few years, gave birth to many-many little mice and lived happily ever after.
