Drawing a fairy tale „Three aunts weavers“ Primary school kids had the integrated lesson. Together with primary school teacher Linas students were looking for crafts mentioned in fairy tales. The English teacher Sandra helped them to translate the fairy tale into the English language and the art teacher Jolanta helped kids to illustrate it.

A poor widow had a pretty daughter. The pretty daughter was a very lazy girl and there was one job she extremely hated. It was flax spinning. One day the mother was angry on her daughter again because she didn’t listen to her and didn’t want to spin. She took a whip, grasped her hair and started beating her daughter.

The girl was screaming as loud as she could. At the moment a king was passing their little house on the way to his castle. When the king heard the scream of a young lady he asked to stop the horses and went to see who is screaming so loudly. When the king saw how the widow is beating a nice girl, he asked, “Dear Lady, why are you behaving like that?”

When the widow suddenly saw the king, she felt very embarrassed and didn’t want to say that her daughter is such a lazy girl. “Dear king, I can’t stop beating her. You can see yourself how poor we are but my daughter doesn’t give me a rest and asks me flax, because she likes spinning flax very much.”

A king was very surprised when he heard woman’s words. He felt sorry for the girl and said, “Dear Lady, I would like to marry your daughter, because I like her very much. In my castle she will be able to spin flax and even silk as much as she wants.”

The widow was very happy that the king made a proposal and agreed to give the daughter in marriage to him. But the daughter didn’t like the idea, because she understood from that day she will have to spin flax and silk. From that day she started crying day and night.

Once when she was crying three old ladies came to visit her. One lady was blobber-lipped, the other had a big and thick thumb and the third lady’s right foot was swollen and ugly. Three women asked why the young girl was crying. She told them everything. Three clever women said, “If you invite us to your wedding, we will help you to solve your problem and you will never have to spin again in your life. But when we come to the wedding you will have to say to the king that we are your aunts and you want us to sit next to you.”

Though the young lady didn’t like three old women, because they didn’t look nice, she agreed to invite them to the wedding. She introduced them as her aunts and let them have a seat next to her.

When everyone started to celebrate and the king started praising her wife’s beauty and diligence, one of the old ladies stood up and said, “Your wife is very pretty and hard-working, but it is temporal. If she doesn’t stop spinning, she will have the same problem as I have. When I was young I liked spinning very much. My mother was angry on me and forbade spinning, but I was just laughing and didn’t listen to her. If she wasn’t at home, I took flax and went on spinning. It was a great pleasure for me! But if I had known my lip will be like it is now I would have never done it,” and she showed her lip to the king.

The second woman stood up then and started telling, “I was spinning too and my thumb now is big and ugly.” The third woman also started explaining how spinning affected her foot and showed it to the king. When women stopped complaining, the king leaned on his wife’s side and gently said, “My sweetheart, can you hear what your aunts say about spinning? Can you see how they look? No! I will never let you spin again. I do not want my beautiful wife to become as ugly as her aunts.” The young queen was very happy and thanked her aunts for helping to get rid of hated spinning. The lazy girl got married with the king and lived happily ever after.
