Don A Lugo WASC Update What we should all be aware of on what We’re Doing on our Action Plans

Progress of School-wide Action Plans Divided into Three Segments –Action Plans from Previous WASC visit –Aligning to Smaller Learning Communities –CASLE Evaluation Plan (Center for the Advancement of Small Learning Environments)

Action Plan 1 Goal: To increase Reading and Math scores above the 25 th NPR* by 2% annually on the CAT/6** test for English Learners and economically Disadvantaged Students. *National Percentile Rank or how students are compared with other students nationwide ** No longer used

Action Plan 1 Refine existing practices on curriculum mapping, unpacking standards, and data analysis Curriculum mapper data will be transferred to SLCs and Edusoft, which provides standards-based benchmark assessment

Action Plan 1 Analyze disaggregated CAT/6 & CST data to improve student learning and achievement and to adjust curriculum and instruction accordingly. Counselors use CST scores as one of multiple measures in placing students Teachers have access to data via API goals have been surpassed. New goal of 691

Action Plan 2 Goal: In order to increase by 5% the number of students scoring at proficient levels in reading and math on the CST/CAT6, raise our API score, and improve attendance, Don Lugo will create a Single Unified School Plan.

Action Plan 2 Data collection (API, AYP, CST, CAHSEE, CELDT, AP test scores, parent and student surveys. Data available through Aeries, Single School Plan now available External auditor to evaluate all areas of our programs & data to help staff form Smaller Learning Community

Action Plan 2 Improve student attendance by strengthening SART and SARB* Attendance slowly improving from 94.3% to 95.1% with a goal of 97% Concerted effort with counselors, parents, & staff to improve student attendance through meetings and intervention *School Attendance Review Team/Board

Action Plan 2 Title 1 - Develop and refine intervention programs. Complete curriculum mapping. Develop parent education program. Title 1 funds provided various intervention programs through tutoring, professional development, PIQE* classes, etc. Being phased into Smaller Learning Communities *Parent Institute for Quality Education

Smaller Learning Communities Both of the Actions Plans developed for the previous WASC visitation will be revised as teams meet to implement the restructuring of Don A. Lugo HS to Smaller Learning Communities Action Plans Aligning to SLCs 5-year process towards complete transformation Currently in first year of program Teachers meet with SLC Coordinator to begin implementation

CASLE Evaluation Plan Four goals that are in complete alignment with the WASC school-wide growth areas: –Improve the academic achievement of all students and to improve the quality of instruction and curriculum –Decentralize and personalize schools –Increase the involvement of parents & community –Connect students to college, career, and technical development
