STRENGTHS

Essential questions What is the value in using a strengths based approach to mentoring? Reprinted with permission from NAESP

Use Your Strengths The ability of the principal to use their strengths to guide instructional improvement is key to creating standards-based change. naesp

Focusing on Signature Themes Strengths-building requires a focus on the following: 1.Becoming consciously competent. 2.Consistent, near perfect performance. 3.Making more appropriate decisions. 4.Achieving refinement. 5.Polishing your personality for a purpose. Your signature themes are your filter or lens. You react to the world through these themes. Signature themes will not change much but you can acquire new knowledge and skills. Reprinted with permission from NAESP

Building on Your Strengths The Gallup study indicates that people who focus on their strengths every day are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life. Tom Rath

Talents Special natural ability or aptitude. Enduring and unique. Recurring patterns created by connections in your brain. Can be strengthened but not completely changed. As we grow older, our brain patterns become more persistent. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” …or can you? Reprinted with permission from NAESP

Turning Talents Into Strengths Your talents, your strongest synaptic connections, are the most important raw material for strength building. Identify your most powerful talents, hone them with skills and knowledge, and you will be well on your way to living the strong life. Reprinted with permission from NAESP
