Presentation transcript:

L-19 Birddog L-5 Sentinel The Birddog, made by Cessna, has an outboard taper to the wing and the standard C170B vertical tail. The Stinson L-5 has a constant cord wing with rounded tips and a much larger vertical tail. The L-5 also has two smaller struts instead of the L-19’s larger single strut. Yes, if you look close, you can see these differences from the tower.

02 Oscar Deuce Basically a Cessna Skymaster with attitude!

T-6 Texan T-28 Trojan T-28 has a much deeper fuselage and a more modern, squared off tail. Oh yea, the Trojan has tricycle gear and the T-6 is a taildragger The Navy version of the T- 6 is called the SNJ You’ll see lots of both!

F4U Corsair F8F Bearcat Bearcat wing is mounted mid fuselage, and fuselage is short and stubby compared to the Corsair. Then, there’s the gull wing and the rearward retracting landing gear of the Corsair.

P-40 Warhawk Hawker Sea Fury P-40 has a greenhouse style canopy (I.e. lots of metal braces), a rounded vertical tail and a small air scoop above the spinner Fuselage of the Sea Fury slopes up to the windshield. It has a longer, narrower fuselage than the P-47 Thunderbolt, and the tail is taller and more rounded. The P-47 tail almost comes to a point.

Grumman TBM Avenger OV-1 Mohawk Largest of the single engine, WWII Grumman’s.

A-26 Invader B-25 Mitchell Not to be confused with the B-26 Marauder which had a much fatter aft fuselage. From the side, the A-26 has a very narrow aft fuselage, much like a Meyers 145 B-25 is distinctinguished by it’s twin vertical tails. Also, from the front, the wings, outboard the engines, are bent down.

Junkers Ju-52 This will probably be the only one at Oshkosh, pretty rare.

Fouga Magister DeHavilind Venom Fouga is the only warbird jet we will work with a V-tail. Probably won’t see more than one or two of these Venom is the big engined version of these early DeHavilind jets. The other one is the Vampire. Both jets look the same with the twin tail booms and the small vertical tails.

T-33 T-37 This little twin jet trainer was made by Cessna. You may also see the A-37 variant which looks the same, but with bigger T-38 motors and hardpoints on the wings for bombs or drop tanks T-33 is the most common two seat version. There is also a single seat version called the P-80 Shooting Star.

L-39 Albatross L-29 Delfin Usually get 1 or 2 Delfin’s and half a dozen L-39’s. Both do jet speeds, but the Albatross can be much faster on approach due to the small, thin wing Both have straight wings as opposed to the F-86’s swept wings.
