Charities

Today we will learn… about charities and how they can help others about the different choices we can make when thinking about donating to charities

What does it mean to be charitable? Being charitable What does it mean to be charitable? Being charitable - to do something for somebody else or for a good cause Do you think you have been charitable some times? Where, when, how? How does it make us feel to be charitable?

Charities A charity is an organisation that provides support for a particular cause

Charities Name some charities you can think of? What is a charity and why do we have them? What sort of help do they provide? What else can people do to help charities besides give money? How do charities raise money for their work?

Thinking about giving, we can support by… Giving money Volunteering to help Donating items We can give in other ways than money. We should only give money if we can really afford to and not feel pressurised into doing so. Participating in fundraising activities e.g. fun runs Do we have to give to charities?

Plan and design a new charity idea… Think about: Is it specific to your local area or is it a national charity? What/who is it supporting? Why would people want to support it? How would you raise money? What would you do with the money raised? How would you encourage people to join in?

Being charitable Write down one idea of how you could be charitable Share your idea with the class

So today we have learnt… what charities are for how charities can help others what things we might need to think about when deciding whether to give to a charity
