Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene Feasibility Studies Competition

We can’t stop thinking about the future… Innovate UK works with people, companies and partner organisations to find and drive the science and technology innovations that will grow the UK economy - delivering productivity, new jobs and exports ….keeping the UK globally competitive in the race for future prosperity.

Steering economic growth works to… …determine which science and technology developments will drive future economic growth …meet UK innovators with great ideas in the fields we’re focused on …fund the strongest opportunities …connect innovators with the right partners they need to succeed …help our innovators launch, build and grow successful businesses

Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene Where to find information: Full competition scope: /asset_publisher/RqEt2AKmEBhi/content/advancing-the-commercial-applications-of-graphene General guidance for applicants:

Commitments in priority areas, during

Definitions For this competition, materials in scope are: Graphene Graphene oxide doped or functionalised graphene

Scope Focused on Applications characterisation / manufacturing / scale-up in scope as part of a project looking at an application Commercial potential Aim for improvements in performance compared to current materials performance 1-to-1 drop-in replacements a harder sell Multi-functional Exploit the properties of graphene to improve upon 2 or more performance characteristics

Scope, functionality performance characteristics (not exhaustive!): structural electrical optical thermal selective permeability ease/speed of manufacture ease of use durability flexibility

Scope, examples Examples: feasibility of a protective coating using graphene, which shows improved wear properties as well as use as an electrical or thermal conductor to heat the coated surface, would be in scope if this coating replaced a current expensive CVD coating process with a faster, cheaper spray-coating process, then this would be included as a processing benefit graphene in a transparent conductor replacement must show at least two benefits, such as improved transparency and conductivity, or improved transparency and flexibility
