15 Integrated supply chains for energy systems Two stage competition process – Feasibility studies open until 18 th February followed by CR&D programme (CR&D by invitation on conclusion of the studies) Focus on developing robust supply chain consortia from technology suppliers, system integrators and end users Encouraging energy systems approaches to include one or more vectors of heat, combustible gases, and electricity Encouraging ideas from different sectors and other utilities (e.g. digital, telecoms, built environment, transport, manufacturing, materials, water, waste) Not only the technical aspects of systems integration but also the social, environmental and commercial challenges Consideration of global market opportunities Following on from feasibility studies the overall objective of the large scale CR&D projects will be to deliver real-world technology validation projects at a systems level, at this stage at least 1 SME must be included in consortia. Plan to commit up to £9milllion in up to 3 integrated projects Principles of competition

18 Cleaner Fossil Fuels Competition Aims : Improve efficiency, reduce cost, and minimise environmental impact of the production and use of conventional fossil fuels (coal, natural gas and oil). Challenge areas: Fossil fuel power generation, Oil and Gas, Industrial Energy Organisations: Business-led - must involve an SME. Budget: Up to £1m for Feasibility Studies (FS, typically £100k-150k each) + up to £4m for Collaborative R&D Projects (CR&D, typically £250k-£1.5m each) Key Dates: Brokerage 11 th & 18 th Feb. Registration opens 2 nd March 2015; EoI (CR&D) 15 th April 2015, Full Submission (CR&D and FS) 10 th June 2015

19 Cleaner Fossil Fuel Competition Competition Objectives: Support SMEs developing technologies in this area to link with operators, large companies, research organisations and other SMEs. Support the development of technologies that make most effective use of UK continental shelf resources and existing infrastructure. Develop technologies to maximise the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of fossil fuel use. Drive earlier maturation of next-generation technologies for carbon abatement.
