Have you ever been to a tidepool? What makes a tidepool a tidepool? Challenge #1: Brainstorm some things you might expect to see, hear and discover in a tidepool.

At a tidepool you would see… The Ocean Sky/Sunlight Challenge #2: What ocean do you see in California?

At a tidepool you would see… A Rocky Shoreline Pools of Water Challenge #3: What do you think ocean water taste like?

Challenge #4: What causes the tide to go in and out? you might only see the rocks when the tide is out. But not always…

At a tidepool you would hear… Crashing waves and moving water Challenge #5: Discuss what you might need to do to survive where waves crash all around you.

At a tidepool you would discover… Plants Fun Fact: Plants in the ocean are only found in three varieties, red, green and brown. Challenge #6: Brainstorm different names for plants found in the ocean.

At a tidepool you would discover… Animals Fun Fact-Most animals living in the tidepool are invertebrates. Challenge #7: What is an invertebrate? List some invertebrates you might find in a tidepool.

Now you’ve seen, heard and discovered some things that define a tidepool… Challenge #8: Which of these things are biotic (living) and which are abiotic (non-living)? Ocean Rocky Shore Pools of Water Crashing Waves and Tides SunlightPlantsAnimals

Challenge #9: Write a description of a tidepool using the key words. Ocean Rocky Shore Pools of Water Crashing Waves and Tides SunlightPlantsAnimals Now you’ve seen, heard and discovered some things that define a tidepool…

You can visit a tidepool at over 30 different California State Parks Challenge: Which California State Park that has tidepools is closest to your school?
