Case 22-year old heterosexual woman Painful swelling right labium majus, increasing in size since 4 days Last sex: 1 week ago 2 partners in past 3 months No condom use No birth control
Case Diagnosis: Labial Abscess Treatment: Probably related to shaving of genital area Treatment: Incision and drainage Doxycycline 100 mg bid 7 days
Case At presentation 4 days later
Differential Diagnosis Bartholin’s Cyst / Bartholinitis? No: Bartholin’s cysts are typically located more posterior and protrude into the vaginal introitus from he inside of the labium minus
Discussion Genital shaving is becoming the norm Appears to be associated with: Folliculitis (both men and women) Abscess (especially labial)
