Presidency of Barack Obama Directions: Use the information from the power point to fill in your graphic organizer on the Presidency of Barak Obama.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act  Federal government spent more than $700 billion in a bailout package designed to create new jobs, & spur economic activity.  Passed other laws to regulate credit cards, lending, & other banking practices.  Also took steps to save the US Auto industry  President Obama wanted to prevent a depression like the 1930s

Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare)   Affordable Care Act (ACA) later became known as ObamaCare.  Created government supplemented insurance and mandatory health coverage for Americans.  Strongly opposed by large groups of republicans  health care reform act that sought to make health care available to more Americans.

Iraq Afghanistan  Gradually withdrew US Troops which were replaced by Iraqi security forces.  The situation remains challenging as acts of terrorism continue against the Iraqi Government  Obama increased the level of US troops in Afghanistan in an effort to stabilized the country & revitalize its development.  Our troops are still currently trying to stabilize the country

“Arab Spring” Israel  Obama discouraged dictators from using force to suppress democracy movements in Tunisia, Yemen, Syria, & Egypt. In Libya he authorized airstrikes to defend rebels, leading to Gaddafi’s downfall and death  Social Media was a main cause of the spread of the uprising  Obama seeks to work with Israelis & Palestinians to achieve a two state solution—  He hopes for a Jewish state and a Palestinian state living side-by- side in peace.
