Angelika Gorobej. All rights reserved. Mariupol.Ukraine.12 PHRASAL VERBS We can use many verbs with other words to make a phrasal verb. One verb can go with several other words to make different phrasal verbs: go with, go off, go on. The meaning is not clear from two parts.

Angelika Gorobej. All rights reserved. Mariupol.Ukraine.13 Grammatically, there are three different groups of phrasal verbs. GROUP 1. Verbs with an object. Agree with, look after, get at, ask for, look at, join in, feel like, look for, call for. Ex.: The police are looking for the criminal. GROUP 2. Verbs that have an object. If the object is a pronoun, it goes in the middle of the phrasal verb; if the object is a noun, it can go either after the verb or in the middle. Bring back, fill in, hand in, let out, draw out, take off, rub out, put on, put away, look up. Ex.: She put on a hat. She put a hat on. She put it on. GROUP 3. Verbs that do not have an object. Come round, go on, hold on, get away, get off, go off, get back, get up, go out. Ex.: I usually get up at 7 o’clock.
