5 INFINITIVES & GERUNDS We use this as COMPLEMENTS in our sentences. Do not translate into SPANISH!! Every time we need to use another verb after the verb in the sentence, we are going to include an infinitive or a gerund.

6 INFINITIVES & GERUNDS INFINITIVES To express purpose To have vacation lift you need an application After verbs of possibility I HOPE to have a party this weekend GERUNDS After verbs of emotion I HATE havING barbeques without beer After prepositions I am talking about cookING something nice! As nouns in a sentence CookING all day in Christmas is awful! SIMPLE FORM We use this after auxiliaries (must, can’t, can, could, should, etc) and the verbs make and let. Drama movies make me cry!

7 Link to listening I would like to have something better to eat! I want to get a boyfriend! To increase sales we need a new strategy I love dancing disco music! Watching horror movies is something that she likes! Bring everything by making a list! INFINITIVES GERUNDS

8 INFINITIVES We’ll use them after these verbs: Want, would like, decide, would love, begin, refuse, agree, expect, hope, etc. GERUNDS We’ll use them after these verbs: Love, like, hate, enjoy, can’t stand, look forward to, couldn’t help, don’t mind, etc. Verbs of possibility Verbs of emotion InfinitivesGerunds FORGET I forgot to buy milk (Completely forget) I forgot buying milk, right? (not sure) STOP I stopped to buy milk (temporary) I stopped drinking milk (definitely) REMEMBER Please remember to send the invitations (remind others) I remember sending the invitations (I’m sure I did)
