FHSAA FOOTBALL 522 FHSAA MEMBER SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN FOOTBALL OVER 30,000 STUDENT ATHLETES 8 CLASSIFICATIONS 73 INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (67 IN A CONFERENCE) 449 PARTICIPATE IN THE STATE SERIES

WE ARE FLORIDA USA Football drew the results from the NFL's Week 1 rosters, and also measured NFL players by state. Florida led the nation with 204 players State Total and Average Number of D1 Recruits since ’07 Florida (2,664) 333

Current Structure Each team who participates in the State Series is placed into a District The District Champion and the District runner up in each District receives an automatic bid to the playoffs. If a team chooses not to participate in the State Series they would become independent and not be eligible for the playoffs.

CURRENT STRUCTURE POSITIVES Its comfortable and what we know 2 teams are guaranteed from each district to get in Guaranteed District games Negatives Some are in small districts some are in large districts due to geography The best teams don’t always get in Travel/competition/safety Old and Outdated Does not take in account week 11 outcome Very little excitement leading into playoffs Second round rematches Over 50% of the playoff games in 2015 had a 21 point differential 40% of districts are 3 or 4 team district due to travel concerns Independent number is growing due to forced district play

WHAT WE HEAR!!!!! 1.WHY DID YOU PUT ME IN THIS DISTRICT 2.DOES FHSAA OWN A MAP 3.HOW DO I APPEAL

GOALS OF A NEW FORMAT 1.ALLOW SCHOOLS TO CREATE A SCHEDULE THAT BEST FITS THEIR ATHLETES AND GOALS 2.CREATE A MORE EXCITING AND COMPETITIVE PLAYOFF FORMAT BY USING A SEEDING SYSTEM

WHAT WOULD A NEW SYSTEM LOOK LIKE?? 8 CLASSIFICATIONS 4 REGIONS IN EACH CLASS REGIONS WOULD BE BROKEN UP BASED ON THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF THE TEAMS IN EACH CLASS EACH SCHOOL THAT IS COMMITTED TO PLAY IN THE STATE SERIES WOULD BE PLACED IN A REGION NO REGION SCHEDULE IS REQUIRED EACH SCHOOL WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING THEIR OWN SCHEDULE THE WORD “DISTRICTS” WILL GO AWAY NO MORE DISTRICT CHAMPION OR RUNNER UP PLAYOFF QUALIFIERS WILL BE TAKEN FROM EACH REGION BASED ON POINT PERCENTAGE AFTER WEEK 11

“NEW” SYSTEM Positives Schools control their own schedule Schools can do what best fits their athletes No more complaining about district placement School districts or areas can create their own conferences Schools and/or Districts can control Travel Creates excitement that is now missing Counts week 11 The best teams will get in Week 11 press conference announcing matchups The seeding will create a more exciting playoff system IF YOU WIN YOU WILL GET IN Negatives Can all schools find 10 games Its uncomfortable and not what we know THE UNKNOWN  Keep in mind there will be 522 other schools looking for 10 games as well

HOW MY TEAM EARNS POINTS FOR A PLAYOFF SEED: Based on your opponents record and if you win or lose This system rewards winning and strength of schedule. You must play a minimum of 8 games to be eligible for a playoff seed Your total games played will be divided by your total points earned which will not penalize teams who choose not to schedule 10 games!

Category 1 Won more than 80% of their games If your opponents record is: If you Win you get 50 points If you lose you get 35 points Category 2 Has won at least 60% of their games but no more than 79% If your opponents record is: If you Win you get 45 points If you lose you get 30 points Category 3 Has won at least 40% of their games but no more than 59% If your opponents record is: If you Win you get 40 points If you lose you get 25 points Category 4 Has won less than 39% of their games If your opponents record is: If you Win you get 35 points If you lose you get 20 points YOUR OPPONENT WILL FIT INTO ONE OF THE FOUR CATEGORIES BELOW If your opponent only plays 9 games it will not penalize your team. Base it on the percentages. Example: 7-2 won 77% of their games- you would get Category two points

In addition to the previous basic points, bonus points are awarded on the following basis:  No points are deducted for playing a team in a lower classification  One bonus point for competing against a school one classification above  Two bonus points for competing against a school two classifications above  Three bonus points for competing against a school three classifications above  Four bonus points for participating against a school four classifications above THE CAP ON BONUS POINTS FOR PLAYING UP IS 4  When a Class 1A rural team plays outside of its classification, enrollment numbers will be used to place them on the class 2A-4A assignment schedule for bonus point purposes only.  Example- 1A rural school has 550 students they would fall into class 3A and thus be judged based on enrollment for themselves and opponents bonus points.  Out of State opponents will be placed in our classification structure based on enrollment and bonus points will be earned based on that.
