DSW  Choose 5 new vocabulary words. Create sentences to depict the meaning of your 5 new words.  Due to the fact that she lost her voice, Miss V is feeling quite afflicted. Students, please be virtuous in your behavior today. Work hard and keep calm. She is unable to create a din in the classroom. Don’t worry, though. She was able to wield today’s lesson with craft and care.

 Today, we will watch a few videos to help us process The Odyssey. Then, you will have time to read to yourselves, reading about Odysseus’ adventure with the Cyclops.  We will end class with a video analysis of The Odyssey.

Processing The Odyssey  

Open up your books!Open up your books!  Read the adventure of The Cyclops. Pg While reading, complete your double entry journal.

Double Entry JournalDouble Entry Journal  Remember your focus – the questions at the top of your handout:  | Is Odysseus a hero or a zero? | Who faces greater challenges: Penelope, Telemachus, or Odysseus? || Who is the character with the most redeeming qualities?  Record passages that support your perspective and opinion towards the characters.

Example  1. “Yet, it is true, each day I long for home, long for the sight of home…” (893).  1. This shows one of Odysseus’s challenges that he must face. He misses home and longs for his family.  2. “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches…” (pg. 898).  2. Odysseus has many of his own challenges to face and he has to take care of his fellow soldiers.
