4. Double-Entry Journal
As you read Tangerine, you will take notes in a double-entry journal in order to document evidence provide personal a response.
On the left side of the journal, you will quote or summarize a passage from the novel. On the right side, you will write your response to the passage.

5. Double-Entry Journal Responses could include the following:
Questions about things you don’t understand
Opinions about characters or plot events
Connections you make to real life or other texts
Predictions about how characters will react
Inferences about why characters are saying or doing things.

7. Reading Prologue
Individually, read the Prologue on the first four pages in the novel, Tangerine.
As a class, we will complete the first page of your own double-entry journal based on what your read in the prologue.

8. Group Discussion/Notes
What is the socioeconomic status of the family?
Do you think Paul’s mom understands him?
What tone is Paul using when he says, “Good work, Mom.”
What is Paul‘s relationship to his family?
