First Ten Days of Journals 3 rd Grade Mathematics

Journal If there are 4 cows and 2 chickens in the barn, how many legs are there?

Journal Bernie rolled a 3 and then a 5 when playing Circles and Stars. How many stars did he draw? How did he represent his thinking with a picture and an equation?”

Journal Write a doubles problem about the magic pot. Use a drawing to show how you would solve the problem. Represent the problem with a repeated addition and multiplication equation.

Journal Explain how the process for counting minutes on the clock is similar to counting nickels and pennies.

Journal Liam bought 6 packs of gum. There were 10 pieces in each pack. How many pieces of gum did Liam have? Show your thinking.

Journal Oleg sold 5 bags of popcorn every day for a week. How many bags of popcorn did Oleg sell? Show your thinking. If he sold the same number of bags the following week, how many bags of popcorn would he have sold? Show your thinking.

Journal Show students the page with the park. Represent how many bushes are in the center rectangle with an array and two multiplication equations.

Journal Use the grid paper to cut out two arrays of equal size. Glue the arrays in your journals. Label each array with the matching multiplication equation. Record what you notice about the product.
