1. comment v. (on/upon)to make a remark, give an opinion e.g. Everyone commented on her new hat. Mr. Brown would not comment on the rumor that he would run for governor. Words and expressions explanation
2. occasion n. a time when something happens e.g. On that occasion I was not at home. The manager has said this on several occasions.
3. specify v. to mention exactly; choose or name e.g. Please specify when you will be away. The man delivered the paper as specified.
4. be particular about: show too much care or interest in small matters; hard to please e.g. He is very particular about his food. My mother is particular about keeping her stamp collection in order.
5. Change one’s mind :to change intentions or opinion e.g I was going to leave tomorrow, but I’ve changed my mind. They have changed their minds.

7. Show …around : to be a guide on a first visit to a place e.g Before you start work,I’ll show you around the office. The headmaster showed us around the school.

Dialogues and passage analysis ⒈ joint a. 共同的 ,共有的 e.g. a joint venture(enterprise) 合资企业 This is our joint bank account.
2. hope/wish a) 两者之后都可接不定式或定语从句, 意为 “ 想 ”“ 希望 ” 。对于有可能实现的希望 用 hope; 只表示愿望而不考虑实现的可能 性或对于不可能实现的主观愿望则用 wish. e.g. He hopes to become a doctor. I wish to go. I wish I were a bird.
b) Wish 后接含不定式作宾补的复合宾语, 而 hope 则不行。因此, She wish sb to do sth.( ∨ ) Sb hopes sb to do sth.(×) e.g. Do you really wish me to do the job. We wish the matter to be settled as soon as possible. c) Wish 可接双宾语,表示祝愿; hope 不行。 e.g. I wish you success. I wish you a happy New Year.
3. be about to do sth. 表示马上要发生的事, 等于 Be on the point of “ 正要 ” ,比 be to 表示的时间更为迫切。 e.g. Look! The race is about to start. I was about to leave when the telephone rang.
⒋ rather…than 是 …… 而不是,应 …… 而 不应 e.g. His age would be rather over thirty than under it. This is rather for father to decide than for you.
⒌ ask for permission 征得同意 e.g. They ask for permission to enter the factory/lab 6. Comment about/on e.g How did they comment on the football match ? The president refused to comment on this matter.
