2 Teaching aims 1.Vocabulary: idea, phone, encourage, follow, repeat, sentence, understand, pardon, have a good talk, have an idea, make phone calls to sb., be scared, etc. 2.Sentence Patterns: How often do you make phone calls to your friends ? Is it hard to understand your friends when they speak English ? If so, what can you ask them to do?

3 Step1: Look and discuss “What are these ? Do you often make phone calls? Who do you often call?”

4 Step 2: Listen and answer. Listen to the tape with the following questions: 1.What does Li Ming say to encourage Wang Mei? 2. What does Jenny do when Wang Mei can’t follow her? 3. Does Wang Mei have an English-speaking friend now?

What does Jenny do when Wang Mei can’t follow her? She repeats the sentences more slowly. 3. Does Wang Mei have an English-speaking friend now? Yes, she does.

6 Step 3: Read and discuss Read the dialogue and make such phone calls again. A: May I speak to …? B: This is …speaking. A: Who is that? …

7 Step 4: Word meaning discrimination ※ pardon ※ excuse me ※ sorry 这三个词都有 “ 请原谅,对不起 ” 之意,但用法却不同。 A: pardon 表示 “ 请原谅 ; 对不起 ” 时, 多指没听懂对方的话, 要 求对方再说一遍。 eg: I beg your pardon ?= Pardon ? B: excuse me 表示 “ 对不起;请原谅 ” 用于下列场合。 (1) 打扰别人的时候 eg: Excuse me. Is there a hospital near here? (2) 中途退席的时候 eg: Excuse me, please. I have to call my mother. (3) 请别人让路时 eg: Excuse me! Let me through please. (4) 表示异议的场合

8 Step 4: Word meaning discrimination ※ pardon ※ excuse me ※ sorry 这三个词都有 “ 请原谅,对不起 ” 之意,但用法却不同。 eg: Excuse me, but that’s not what you said. C: sorry 或 I’m sorry 表示 “ 对不起 ” 时用于下列场合。 (1) 道歉 eg: I’m sorry I’m late. (2) 表示遗憾 eg: I’m sorry, but I can’t agree. (3) 表示难过、悲伤 eg: I’m sorry to hear your mother is ill.

Li Ming, you have many friends who speak English. 本句中的 who speak English 是一个由关系代词 who 引导的定语 从句, 用来修饰名词 friends. 注意定语从句的谓语动词要和所修 饰的名词或代词保持人称和数的一致。如果把 many friends 换 成 a friend, 此句则变成: Li Ming, you have a friend who speaks English. 当定语从句修饰的是 “ 人 ” 的时候,其关系代词是 who 或 that ; 当定语从句修饰的是 “ 物 ” 的时候,其关系代词是 which 或 that. eg: I know the man who / that is standing at the door. Are you reading the book which / that you bought yesterday?

Is it hard to understand your friends when they speak english? 在此句中,it 是形式主语, 动词不定式 to understand your friends 是真正的主语后置。在英语中为使句子保持平衡,常 用 it 作形式主语,动词不定式短语放在后面。 eg: To be careful in the street is necessary. = It is necessary to be careful in the street. 3. If so, what can you ask them to do? if so 和 if not 可用来代替完整的句子。 eg: --I’m afraid it’s going to rain. --If so, we have to stay at home. --Does anybody want to go with you? --If not, I will go alone.
