The approach: A Rigid Policy of Absolute Flexibility! We need to work through the content – and there’s a lot of it. You need to prepare an individual research paper – the assessment tasks are designed to ensure that you can demonstrate that you achieve the learning objectives for the course and that you also receive exposure to the rigour of legal research. I am happy to work with you as a group to ensure that you get the support that you need from the classes to prepare the assessment. I will endeavour to point out along the way where areas of discussion might be relevant to your thinking or research for your research paper. I am happy to focus on the issues and areas that are important to you – but we do need to make sure that we cover all of the content. Research requires collaboration – just as lawyers are required to collaborate in the real world. The assessment tasks are also designed to foster respectful collaboration and engagement. I’m going to encourage you to work in groups and to share your ideas and findings. You know what broad areas we’re going to cover and when I plan to cover them – I am very open to changing the order that we do things – but if you ask me to do that, we need to ensure that there’s plenty of notice for your colleagues. 8 (c) Cathryn Nolan | RMIT University
