Introduction Sheet Please write down the following on a sheet of paper and hand it in before the end of class today: 1)Name 2)Email Address that you regularly check 3)Math Background (i.e. Calculus, Algebra, etc.) 4)Economics Background 5)Major/Degree 6)What is something you would like to learn in ECON 100? 7)Anything else you want me to know. (learning disability, need to sit at front of classroom, etc.)

4. Expectations Attend Lectures. Download/Print your Coursepaper. Read Relevant Chapters in the Textbook. Prepare and write up answers to the weekly worksheets before tutorial. Be prepared for to participate in tutorials. This could be discussions, answering questions, and working through problems on the board.

5. Student Representative Each Tutorial Group is required by the ECON Department to have a Student Representative. The Student Rep will pick up on problems or discussion points from others in the tutorial group and will meet with the Part 1 Director on 23 October (Tuesday) from 12-1 to discuss these points. The Part 1 Director will then present this to the Department Staff.

6. In-Class Activity Each person will receive an item. Do not show the item to other students and don’t look at what they receive. Also, please do not open your item until told to do so. Using a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the minimum and 10 is the maximum, rate how happy you are with your item.

7. In-Class Activity: Round 2 Everyone is now allowed to look around and see what items other students have received. Using the same scale, re-rate your level of happiness with the item that you’ve received.

8. In-Class Activity: Round 3 Partner up with one person sitting next to you. Everyone now has the option to trade only with their partner. Using the same scale as before, rate your level of happiness with the item that you currently have.

9. In-Class Activity: Round 4 Everyone now has the option to trade with anybody in the room. I’ll allow one minute for trading. Feel free to get up and move around. Using the same scale as before, rate your level of happiness with the item that you currently have.

10. In-Class Activity: Discussion What are some things that you’ve noticed or learned by doing this activity?

11. Next Week Attend your lectures and read the book. Get the tutorial worksheet from Moodle and work through it. Working in groups or pairs is fine – but make sure that you understand what is going on. Bring your completed work or any questions that you have to next week’s tutorial. Or email me if you are having trouble. Be ready to participate in tutorial!
