Born May 24, 1941 Real name was Robert Allen Zimmerman Born in Minnesota Grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Russia Formed a couple of bands in high school Very influenced by blues artists

Also influenced by folk singer Woody Guthrie Dropped out of college in 1960 and moved to NYC to be with Guthrie who was in the hospital Became a regular in the clubs and coffehouses of Greenwich Village Met a lot of musicians and song writers

Released self-titled Bob Dylan in 1962 Mostly covers Only two original songs Released two other albums soon after The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan The Times They Are A- Changin’

Became firmly associated with the 60’s “protest movement.” Wrote songs about civil rights and nuclear weapons Walked out of the Ed Sullivan show when he wasn’t allowed to perform a particular song
