4 The Beatles were a British band who originated from Liverpool in the 1960s. They were innovative in their style and were influenced by folk music, music hall, rock ‘n’ roll, blues, soul and country and western. At first the Beatles songs and arrangements were performed by vocals, electric and acoustic guitars. Q. Why did the arrangement begin to change do you think? NOTES

5 Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band is the 8 th studio album recorded by the Beatles. It was released in June 1967. It began when the hype around the Beatles began to die down and the group began to focus on their composition of music, rather than performing. 6 The concept of the album was devised by Paul McCartney. Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was to be the alter-ego of the Beatles. Sporting outrageous costumes, long beards and moustaches, the album represented a different side of the group. Many different genres and styles can be heard in the album from Indian style to Jazz. 8 Paul McCartney wrote the song when he was sixteen. The song made the album as McCartney’s father turned 64 in 1966. The song is about a young man talking to his lover about growing old together.
