Regional cooperation for monitoring and control of transboundary movement of ODS An example from the South-East Asia and the Pacific (SEAP) and South Asia (SA) regions Customs + ODS officers

Regional cooperation in the – customs and ODS officers in the SEAP/SA regions - Issues that have been addressed: Collaboration at the national level. Division of responsibilities. Key elements in legislation and i/e lic systems to prevent illegal trade in ODS Common smuggling methods in the region How to establish risk profiling systems How to deal with seized goods How to handle ODS in transit Importance of harmonisation of coding of ODS by neighbouring countries

Results – 1 (2) Focal points have been identified and the collaboration between NOU and Customs appear to work very well in most (or all) countries Well established contacts between countries (incl. bilateral and small-group meetings) Strong collaboration with regional and international organisations have been established to mutual benefit and with good prospects of being sustainable Capacity of participating officers significantly enhanced
