Flash Planning a Project

Production Process Write Script Design characters and Backgrounds Storyboard Create animatic from storyboard Animate Composite and edit scenes together Postproduction

Writing the script Be aware of the following –Number of locations –Number of character –Complexity of location

Designing characters Character layouts –Good for short one-off animations Character library –Good for longer pieces or projects where the characters will be used again

Storyboard Convert script into visuals Every shot needs to be storyboarded Flash can be used for storyboarding Characters from character libraries can be used in the process

Animatic Convert storyboard Every shot is set to the proper timing Sound is added Flash or video software can be used

Composite Needed when creating scenes in multiple files Needed when using backgrounds from Photoshop or other rasterized images Needed when doing complex camera mechanics

Postproduction Can only be done if project was composited in After Effects or other video software Can add effects, color correction and work with the sound mix

Questions for the Project Where do you want to show the piece? –TV –Film –Internet Do you want to use the Flash Player to distribute? Does file size matter? Does run-time animation smoothness matter? Do you want to use camera mechanics such as pans and zooms? How many people will be working on the project?

Flash or After Effects More than 1 minute Animating different scenes Complex Camera moves Incorporate non-Flash elements Another format than SWF is desired
