5. Avoid Breaks in Continuity Continuity from shot to shot must be maintained. A jump cut is an abrupt break in continuity that makes the subject appear to jump.

6. Helpful Transitions Using a dissolve (also called crossfade) can help you avoid a jump cut. Dissolves are good for showing changes in location or time.
