Thriving communities, affordable homes A new approach to affordable housing  Affordable rent offer for new affordable housing –£4.5bn (of which £2.5bn committed) –Rents set at up to 80% of market rent –Minimum two year tenancies with flexibility for longer  Four year programme bids that offer: –Conversion of voids to affordable rents as well as access to other resources – minimising HCA funding –In return for investment in new supply at affordable rents –HCA payment on completion  Rent and tenancy terms for existing tenants not affected –Other programme elements: Empty homes, Mortgage Rescue, Homelessness Change Programme and traveller pitch funding –Aim is to deliver up to 150,000 new affordable homes over the period

Thriving communities, affordable homes The Government’s approach to empty homes  Government to provide incentives for local authorities to tackle empty homes as a core part of their strategy for meeting housing needs  Proposed measures include –£100m of the £4.5bn HCA resources for affordable housing to bring empty homes back into use –Consideration whether empty homes brought back into use should count as new homes for the New Homes Bonus.
