Butte County Communication Strategy for 2014 and 2015 February 25, 2014 Moving Forward February 11, 2014 – Board of Supervisors approved Regional Economic Development Strategy –Develop and implement a Communication Strategy. The purpose of the Strategy is to establish Butte County as open, responsive, and innovative when serving employees, the media, and the public. Successful implementation of the Strategy will enhance communication with employees, improve coordination with the media, and increase public access to County information, programs, and services.

Butte County Communication Strategy for 2014 and 2015 February 25, 2014 Initiatives Initiative #1 – Promote Butte County’s open, responsive, and innovative service to the public. Initiative #2 – Increase electronic access to County services, programs, and information in a coordinated and timely manner Initiative #3 – Coordinate communication efforts on a countywide basis as well as with partner organizations. Initiative #4 - Foster a workplace environment in which information is accessible and flows freely and quickly in all directions.

Butte County Communication Strategy for 2014 and 2015 February 25, 2014 Initiative #1 Establish a brand image and brand message for Butte County as an open, responsive, and innovative local government. Create a digital newsroom with photo and video content in formats that can be downloaded, edited, and broadcast by the news media. Targeted Communication Projects – Work with County Departments to identify initiatives, services, and programs to promote to employees, the media, and the public. Promote Butte County’s open, responsive, and innovative service to the public.

Butte County Communication Strategy for 2014 and 2015 February 25, 2014 Initiative #2 Electronic Tools for Public Access and Input – Work with County Departments to identify, develop, and implement electronic tools for public access and input. Application for Reporting Issues – Identify a system that allows employees and members of the public to report maintenance issues through a mobile application. Social Media Usage – Use appropriate social media channels to provide timely information to the media and the public. Increase electronic access to County services, programs, and information in a coordinated and timely manner.

Butte County Communication Strategy for 2014 and 2015 February 25, 2014 Initiative #3 County Public Information Officer (PIO) Group – Coordinate regular meetings and online forums of County PIOs and public outreach staff from County Departments to enhance collaboration among departments and to unify public outreach efforts. Communication Training – Identify and coordinate communication training for County PIOs and other public outreach staff Coordinate communication efforts on a countywide basis as well as with partner organizations.

Butte County Communication Strategy for 2014 and 2015 February 25, 2014 Initiative #4 Intranet – Plan, develop, and deploy an intranet that is useful and accessible by all County employees, allowing access to employee information and key County functions. Video Training Plan – Create a video training plan focused on allowing access to core employee training functions online. Foster a workplace environment in which information is accessible and flows freely and quickly in all directions.
