What is America’s Second Harvest?  Largest domestic hunger relief organization  National network of 216 food bank and food rescue organizations serving every U.S. county/parish  Serving 23.3 million hungry Americans  Providing 1.8 billion pounds of food and grocery products  Distributing to over 50,000 qualified hunger relief agencies  Ranking as one of Worth magazine’s best charities based on charity’s impact with consistent high marks from watchdog groups

Vision and Mission Vision Ending hunger in the United States Mission To feed hungry people by soliciting and judiciously distributing grocery products and prepared and perishable foods through a nationwide network of certified affiliates, and to educate the public about the nature of and solutions to the problems of domestic hunger.

Allocation Terms Goal Factor –Individual food bank affiliate’s percentage of the national population and poverty population based on their service area Anytown affiliate has 1% of the national population (from Census statistics) and.5% of the national poverty population: –Their goal factor =.75%

Allocation Terms - continued Percent of Goal –Anytown food banks’s percentage of offered pounds to goal pounds: Anytown is at 106% of goal Example: (80,000/75,000) x 100 = 106%

Customer Service Goals To provide the best possible customer service to position A2H as the premier hunger relief organization for food donors. The Logistics Department must make it as convenient as possible for donors to donate food and as convenient as possible for our affiliate customers to accept and pickup donations. The Logistics Department must take the lead in problem solving and developing programs to make the donations process as efficient as possible.

Logistics Transportation Initiatives –Affiliate Transportation Service Option Negotiated national and regional contracts, A2H will hire truckload freight when requested by affiliates. –Transportation Coalition A2H affiliate transportation professionals assisting other affiliate operations staff in identifying and solving transportation problems based on their experience in transportation. Mentoring visit by TC mentor to start process. Available to any A2H affiliate

Logistics Disaster Relief –To develop effective transportation systems to provide food and other required products as quickly and efficiently as possible to disaster victims. –To develop support in these efforts: National Private Truck Council International Warehouse Logistics Association Council of Logistic Management American Trucking Association

Logistics Fresh Foods Initiatives –Fresh Foods Initiative 62 million pounds of Fresh Produce last year 2.2 million pounds of Seafood last year Subsidized processing, packing Subsidized transportation –Nutrition Coalition effort to maintain good nutrition standards for our clients by monitoring the donation mix and providing nutritional guidelines

What is Relief Fleet? - 10 million pounds moved free of charge loads (LTL and Truckload)  - 82 Food banks received free freight - $ 300,000 savings in transportation costs Stats from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002 Matches donated transportation with donated food items to feed hungry Americans

Relief Fleet –To develop free/reduced rate transportation for both A2H donations and affiliate donations through: Soliciting Freight Donors Developing data on major traffic lanes Load Matching Technology Public Relations
