8. Mainers Feeding Mainers Our goal: to get fresh and nutritionally balanced Maine- grown food to needy Maine families. Since launching the program in 2010, we have worked with over 30 farm partners. 9. Cooking Matters for Maine Teaches families at risk of hunger how to cook healthy meals that are affordable and delicious. Each class meets for 2 hours a week for 6 weeks for a hands on cooking class. Classes are taught by nutrition educators (from Maine SNAP-ED) and a volunteer chef. This year, we will hold over 250 classes in all 16 counties. Since the program launched in 2010, we have taught over 5,000 low income Mainers how to cook from scratch and how to maximize their food budget.
