4 Planning: Build the Plan Plan Components: Policy Statement Planning & Response Team Identify Sources for – Emergency Services – Generators / Power – Food / Water – Alternate Communication – Building Materials / Repairs – Alternate Guest Lodging – Insurance Recovery Plan Guest and Employee Safety and Evacuation Minimization of Damage Avoiding a Disruption Alternate Guest Accommodations Adequate Warning / Communication (before, during and after) Employee Training Plan Objectives:

5 Planning: Adequate Insurance What Insurance Coverages are Needed? Property insurance covering Buildings, Contents and Business Income Business Income: – Pays for continuing expenses (rent, payroll etc.) along with lost revenue resulting from a disruption – Also covers the “extra expenses” needed to avoid a disruption – Discuss with agent – maintenance fees are not always recognized as “revenue” by the carrier Many perils are not automatically covered: – Earthquake, Wind, Flood, Terrorism, Utility Interruption, Cyber attacks all require special attention

6 Planning: Adequate Insurance Other Insurance General Liability, Auto, Boiler & Machinery / Equipment Breakdown (often overlooked), D&O, Crime, Cyber Liability, and more Recommendations Verify which perils are covered under the Property policy Verify that Bus. Int. insurance will pay for loss of maintenance fees, and cover alternate accommodations Have a building appraisal on hand – will help expedite the claim and avoid a poor settlement Consider “Ordinance or Law” coverage – provides additional coverage for the enforcement of building codes or laws such as ADA. Also includes other coverage enhancements

7 Recovery Conduct a roll call – employees & guests Assess the Damage Notify appropriate parties: -Emergency services -Insurance representative -Pre-arranged sources for clean-up, supplies, power, alternate accommodations, etc Check for safety hazards Photograph and document
