Medical Terminology Medical Terminology Medical Terminology for Health Careers provides the strong medical language foundation that students need for jobs in the healthcare industry. Provides an overview of health care and anatomy and physiology of body system. Emphasizes visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning modes. Teaches word analysis techniques, core medical terms, and the essential vocabulary of each body system. Offers stimulating, comprehensive exercises that require the recall of terms and word structures as well as analysis and judgment within the context of medical records. Presents anatomy, physiology, pathology, and diagnostic terms within a framework of infant-to-seniors health care. 2

3 2.The Suffixes (A)  Term: -ac  Meaning: related to تعود على  Example:  Cardiac: تعود على القلب pertaining to the heart  iIliac: تعود على جزء من الامعاء الدقيقة pertaining to ileum

4 The Suffixes (A)-Cont  Term: -aemia or -emia  Meaning: related to blood تعود على الدم  Example:  Anaemia: فقر الدم loss of blood  hyperlipidemia: زيادة الدهون في الدم increase lipids level in the blood  Hypocalcemia: نقص مستوى الكالسيوم في الدم Decrease of blood calcium level  Hypoglycemia: نقص السكر في الدم decrease blood sugar level

5 The Suffixes (A)-Cont  Term: -al  Meaning: related to blood تعود على  Example:  renal : (كلوي) الكلية تعود على related to kidney  hormonal: تعود على الهرمون (هرموني) related to hormone  Placental: تعود على المشيمة related to placenta  Retinal: تعود على شبكية العين related to Retina

7 The Suffixes (C)  Term: - cele  Meaning: related to hernia or hollow تعود على الفتق او تجويف به سائل احيانا  Example:  Cystocele :hollow cavity inside cyst قيلة مثانية (فتق المثانى)  hydrocele: a swelling of testicles or testis containing fluids أُدْرة = قيلة مائية في الخصية = فتق او انتفاخ بسبب سائل  Gastrocele: herniation of stomach فتق المعدة

8 The Suffixes (C)-Cont  Term: -centesis  Meaning: surgical puncture for drainage or aspiration عملية ثقب لسحب السوائل للعلاج او التشخيص  Example:  Thoracocentesis : aspiration of fluids from the thorax or chest سحب السوائل من الصدر  Abdominocentesis: aspiration of fluids from the abdomen سحب السوائل من البطن
