Wider Impact: Wider Impact: A benefit to a learner beyond the specific subject of the course

Relationships Independence Confidence Connections ProgressionHealth

Improve Health By planning the content and teaching methods of your course, you can increase the likelihood that a learner feels they have improved health by learning with you. See examples below. Cookery -Discuss healthy eating, nutrition and physical activity with learners, explore their views and wishes Modern Foreign Languages -Take your class out of the classroom -Walk and talk -Use health as a discussion topic for vocabulary Exercise -Help learners to identify realistic fitness goals so they can see their progress Art -Discuss in class how art can help improve wellbeing -Take your class outside From an adult learning T’ai Chi class

Improve Relationships By planning the content and teaching methods of your course, you can increase the likelihood that a learner feels they have improved relationships by learning with you. See examples below. Maths -Solve a problem as a group Cookery -Cook and share a meal -Cook for someone else Exercise -Make sure your class has some opportunity for learners to talk to each other Art -Make a gift/card for someone else -Produce a piece of art as a group -Encourage learners to discuss their work with others

Improve Progression Progression might mean something different for each learner. Find out what your learners want to do next and plan accordingly Examples of progression -Joining or setting up a club or group that does the same/similar activity – badminton club, art club etc. -Thinking about looking for a different job -Getting nearer to finding a job -Moving on to a course that offers a qualifications -Taking careers advice -Volunteering in local community with new skill -Joining a timebank -Learning to teach the subject Insert photo

Improve Independence, Confidence, reduce Isolation As with all the Wider Impact areas, it is important to understand the personal goals your learners bring with them to your lessons. Learners’ personal goals may be subtle, they may not wish to share them with others in the group and in some cases learners might not be able to identify exactly what their goal is. Some areas we know our learners have found wider impacts to their independence, confidence or feeling less isolated include -Computing - Getting on line helping to be in contact with family, friends, local services -Art/Cookery -Developing a skill in something, now being able to show someone else how to do it -Any subject - Sometimes simply by getting to class, a learner can help prove to themselves that they can do something independently Insert photo e.g. Older learners getting on line, cooking/eating together
