Perkins End of Year Evaluation McDowell Technical Community College

Perkins funding made a difference at our college by: Providing tutoring to Technical and Vocational students, and purchasing much needed equipment and supplies for Technical and Vocational programs.

Our college’s best practice using Perkins funds is: Transitioned from using Perkins funds to support personnel costs to using the funds for much needed instructional supplies and equipment.

Our College Perkins Team: NameTitle Phone Ladelle HarmonDirector of Institutional Effectiveness du

1. We strengthened the academic, career and technical skills of our students by: Providing tutoring Purchasing equipment for Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology, an industry in need of employees. Purchasing equipment and instructional supplies for Computer Integrated Machining, an industry in need of employees. Purchased equipment for Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. Purchased equipment for Automotive Systems Technology.

2. We linked career and technical education at the secondary level with career and technical education at the postsecondary level: We expanded our Career and College Promise offerings with 2 new Health Information Technology certificates (Billing & Coding, and Health Informatics) and adapted the Nurse Aide certificate to meet industry needs. We hosted K-12 Counselors on our campus for their monthly meetings which included presentations and tours of our campus.

3. We provided students with strong experience in, and understanding of all aspects of an industry by: Our ongoing Manufacturer’s Pipeline Committee where Work-Based Learning opportunities with Baxter Healthcare have emerged. We offer a Summer Experience for a number of high school students who tour various aspects of the county, to include several manufacturers.

4. We developed, improved, or expanded the use of technology in career and technical education by: Telemedicine ATI Electronic Resource Education Evolve Teaching Concept Based Curriculum Omnicell Training Course 2016 National Nurse Educator Summit: "Making it Happen: Enhancing Education Through Technology“.
