Energy is defined as the ability to do work or cause change Work is done when a force causes an object to move in the direction of that force – Examples:
Energy and Transformation of Energy
THE ABILITY TO DO WORK 1. Energy Energy helps us do things. It gives us light. It warms our bodies and homes. It bakes cakes and keeps milk cold. It runs.

Energy What is energy? Energy is the ability to do work.
What is Energy  Energy is the ability to cause change. Change in ANYTHING  There are two general types of energy Kinetic energy Potential energy.

Forms and Types of Energy Energy: The property of an object that allows it to produce change in the environment or in itself. (The ABILITY to do WORK)
Energy - The Ability To Cause Change -. Kinetic Energy  energy due to motion  Kinetic Energy and Speed  the faster an object moves, the more kinetic.

Energy is said to be the ability to do work. That means the ability to make something happen. By “happen” it means to make things move or change condition.
Forms of Energy. Nature of Energy Energy is the ability to do work. If an object or organism does work, then it uses energy. Work is the use of a force.
Energy Power-point. Energy The ability of a system to perform work. It can be transferred and converted, but not created or destroyed.

Presentation transcript:

 1. Energy is the ability to cause change. Joules are used to measure energy.

 2. The amount of energy an object has because it is in motion. The energy of motion.  Object +mass + speed

 3. Mass and speed. More mass means more kinetic energy. More speed means more kinetic energy.

 4. Potential energy is stored energy.

 5. Gravitational: a tossed ball  Object +mass + height  Elastic: a stretched rubberband  Chemical: food, oil, coal

 6. Heat energy.  It moves due to changes in temperature.  It always moves from hot or warm to cold.

 7. Radiant energy.  Carried by waves. Spreads out in all directions.

 8. The movement of energy from one place to another.

 10. Energy transfer that happens when push or pull force moves an object.  Work = force + movement

 9. By colliding or hitting another object.

 11. Disturbances that move energy without moving matter.

 12. Transfer of sound through vibration of an object. They must pass through matter such as air or water.

 Horizontally across the surface of the water

 They move through empty space, matter, & water. They spread out in all directions

 light  infrared  microwave  xray  Radio  Gamma rays  Ultra Violet

 Released through chemical reactions by breaking bonds or making bonds.
