GUEST SPEAKER Sally Gaskill became director of the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP) in 2012, following four years as the project’s associate director. Her career has encompassed local arts leadership, grantmaking and advocacy, and she has focused on creating better environments for artists. Sally chairs the City of Bloomington Arts Commission and remains active in arts advocacy on the local, state and national levels. Sally is a proud board member of Arts Schools Network. She is a musician and performs with Voces Novae, a chamber choir. She received a B.A. in History from Colorado College and an M.A. in Arts Management from American University. 4

GUEST SPEAKER Rebecca F. Houghton is the SNAAP Project Coordinator. She leads client services and serves as primary liaison with the IU Center for Survey Research, among her many other SNAAP related duties. She previously worked as an evaluator with the Center for Evaluation and Education Policy at Indiana University where she developed and implemented evaluations for community service organizations and government agencies. Becca holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University with concentrations in Policy Analysis and Nonprofit Management, and a BA in English from Tufts University. 5

SNAAP = Strategic National Arts Alumni Project  Online annual survey of people with arts degrees (arts high schools, colleges & universities)  Investigate the educational experiences and career paths of arts graduates in North America  Provide confidential data back to participating institutions;  Publish research on the national data  Center for Postsecondary Research, School of Education, Indiana University

Since 2008 …  300 institutions have participated  Includes 22 arts high schools  Over 140,000 respondents since the first annual administration in 2011  Includes over 4,100 arts high school alumni  SNAAP dataset the most comprehensive source of information about arts graduates

SNAAP 2.0  2014 market study led to the development of “SNAAP 2.0”  SNAAP 2.0 launched 2015  New core questionnaire + topical modules  Different pricing structure  Limited to higher education in 2015  2016: New partnership with Arts Schools Network

How Arts Schools Use their SNAAP Data  Advocacy  Alumni & Donor Outreach  Recruitment  Program & Curricular Change  Planning & Assessment

Benefits to Arts High Schools “SNAAP data help us understand our long-term impact on students’ lives. The knowledge that we gain from SNAAP also helps us grapple with imagining how we will prepare our students and school for the future, a hugely important question for all creative institutions.” -- Chris Ford, Director, Baltimore School for the Arts

SNAAP data can help you answer these questions:  What are our alumni doing now?  How many are working in the arts?  How important was their arts training to their current work?  What skills did they learn at arts school?  How do they rate their overall experience at arts school?  What might their school have offered to help prepare them for future education or careers?

Interested in participating? Do you have an alumni database? Review it now.  SNAAP requires: Name, year of graduation  Extremely helpful: Home address, address *SNAAP can find some of your ‘lost’ alumni*

Registration for 2016 SNAAP Survey  Arts high schools are being invited to participate for the first time since  Registration opens April  Closes July 15

Cost of Participation Arts High School Size Number of Students Enrolled Regular FeeASN Member* Small/Medium $1,400$1,200 Large≥ 600$2,700$2,500 Registration Fee: $150 (subtract $50 if you register by June 1st)

Would you like to learn about the educational experiences and career paths of your arts high school graduates? How many are currently working as professional artists? What other careers have they gone into, and how relative was their arts high school education? SNAAP welcomes arts high schools to register for the 2016 SNAAP survey–and ASN arts high school members will receive a $200 discount! SNAAP 2.0 features a new shortened core survey, topical modules, and data visualizations. High schools will need to submit a contact file with names and addresses of as many graduates as possible. Registration will open in April. For more information, contact the SNAAP staff at or (812) 19
