Presentation transcript:

 Hook—be creative and draw your audience in.  You may want to use your hook from your paper (be brief)  You may want to give a fact or a statistic (be sure to cite if you go this route.  “Welcome and thank you for being here today.” (State your name and purpose)

 The Paper:  Topic  Connection Between Paper and Project  The Project:  Define Project: What did you do?  What you learned (just enough to queue your memory on each bullet point AND KEEP IT GENERAL, DON’T GIVE IT ALL AWAY ON THIS SLIDE)

 A. Researchable question / (turn your thesis into a question)  B. Findings—  Talk about your research process here, the evolution of your question, interesting facts your found, keep it general though. You will be more specific in a second. ( The idea on this slide is that you started your research process with a question and answered the question. If that wasn’t the actual process, pretend that it was…)

 Conclusion of your research/  Thesis  Main Sub Topics/supporting claims of you paper(select two or three main topics to discuss, perhaps those that most lead to connection with the project.) (This is really just your thesis and your functional introduction)

 Now Introduce one of your claims, and  give some factual / persuasive information you learned That supports your claim.  Lots of it. (* Cite Sources: GIVE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT YOUR Claims Name them as a news broadcaster would: “According to a 2006 Time magazine report…” or “The New York Times published an article in December 2006 claiming that…” Warrant (explain) why your above info supports your claim. )

 Now you will do the same thing for the other two / three main sub topics/claims in your paper.  Basically you are turning your essay into a speech (one slide for each sub topic).  This section on your senior paper should be half of your presentation. *****Remember this formula for research.  Claim – the claim from your essay  Evidence – the research that supports the claim  Warrant - explanation of how research supports claim

 What you chose for a project  Clearly state how the project was connected to your paper. Literally use the word “CONNECTION”(plan what you are going to say here)

 A. The Place  Pictures??  B. The Mentor  Qualifications… why did you select this person?  Who else did you work with?  Pictures??? (use separate slides for pictures so that they fill the screen. )

 What did you do or accomplish  Duties  Stories are good here Prepare to stall if necessary  Pictures???? (This is the moment where you need to check you time. If you are at anything less than 8 min, stall till the 8 minute mark comes up, stories, details, etcetera. If you are at 9 minutes… END IT!!! “any questions”)

 What you learned  How will this help you in the future  What was the biggest impact that the project as a whole (paper and job shadowing) made on you?  Thank the judges and ask if there are any questions AND CLICK TO YOUR WORKS CITED SLIDE. NO WORKS CITED = NO PASS (there will be questions. plan to answer them)

 You MUST have a properly formatted works cited slide as the final slide, or second to last slide.  The format is the same as it was in your paper… use the paper to recreate this slide!  Your paper is an excellent resource, so use it for the information you most value and want to include in your presentation!  Cite all images you use from the internet.
